Carrot Salad

2-3 cups carrots, peeled and grated
1/2 cup raisins or dried cranberries
1/3 cup mayonnaise, or to taste
1 tablespoon granulated sugar, to taste
1/2 teaspoon salt
black pepper, to taste
1/2 apple, diced or grated (optional)

Put grated carrots in a large bowl; toss with remaining ingredients. Chill thoroughly before serving.

Carrot Salad serves 4 to 6.
