Runza or Bierock

1 lb. ground beef
3 cups chopped cabbage
1 onion, chopped
garlic salt or salt
fresh ground pepper
1-2 cups grated cheese
1 Tbsp. milk, if desired to make tops of bread shiny
Homemade bread dough, or packaged

Prepare bread dough or packaged roll mix. (I like to use the bread machine.) If not using machine, after kneading, cover and let rise while you put the rest of hte ingredients together.

Brown ground beef & onion. Drain. Add cabbage and 1/2 c. water. Season with salt/pepper. Cook until water is gone.
Divide dough into small balls, about 6. Roll each ball until flat and surface is large enough to hold filling.

Top each with meat mix, then some cheese. Wrap dough around filling and pinch edges to seal. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Let rest for 10-15 minutes. If desired, brush milk atop to create a shiny surface.

Bake 20 minutes at 350 degrees or until.

Thanks, JoAnne! I used to make my own version of these after trying them in Bison, Kansas, about 20 years ago. I had forgotten about them over the years... but maybe I will make some soon!
